We’ve been keeping an eye on the latest developments and controversies that surround the release of AI (Artificial Intelligence) programs for public use. We wrote an article for a Muse introduction, which dealt with AI and its potential impact on the publishing world, in Issue 43. In that article, we voiced the following concerns:
As editors of a literary press, we’ve been wondering about the future of poetry collections that might be submitted to us. Would we know if an AI had written these poems? What about the editors of literary journals—could they distinguish a short story or a flash fiction piece written by an AI? And, what if the AI does a darn good job at composing a collection of poems that is unique and perhaps groundbreaking? Would we even consider publishing such a work?
