We came across a refreshing article in The Atlantic that talks about an interesting concept that might be helpful to people who are involved in the literary community—making a “To-Don’t List.”
We’re fast approaching the three month mark since the first of January, when you might have made a list of resolutions regarding your practical life and your creative life (items we want “To Do”). Once the beginning of April rolls around, many of these goals have fallen to the wayside—this is the norm for most of us when it comes to keeping our “resolutions.”
Perhaps consider creating a list of anti-resolutions, or as it referred to above, a “To-Don’t List.” Think about the rest of your year and come up with those things that you want to NOT do—spending time with people who upset you, watching 6 hours of YouTube a day, saying “yes” when you really mean “no,” no longer submitting poems to journals because you feel discouraged, feeling jealous of a fellow writer’s su…
