Hello, Writers and Poets!

We have been receiving quite a few emails from Muse subscribers who are having difficulty writing—words just aren’t flowing. These letters express how out of control our society and world seem right now, how inspiration has been usurped by anxiety, and in some cases, despair. If you feel like you can’t write, you are not alone. In times of uncertainty and potential upheaval, our creative self can feel paralyzed and off balance. We would like to offer you a very simple suggestion to both re-invigorate your writing and quiet your mind—composing haiku.

The essence of haiku is calm observation of the world around us (particularly nature), and it can serve as a mindfulness practice, allowing us to engage with the world without becoming overwhelmed by the perceived chaos around us. Haiku encourages a deep breath, focus, and calmness, as it inspires us to express emotions which can feel crushing if left unvoiced.
