We receive many questions concerning how writers can achieve some balance in their busy lives to make room for some quality time to craft their creative writing. Even if you consider yourself a seasoned writer who has figured out a successful and productive schedule, you can still go through rough patches where you feel unmotivated—as if your wellspring of good ideas has gone suddenly dry. Drawing on our own experience as well as that of writing colleagues and friends, we have come up with a list of practical ways to balance and organize your writing life amidst your busy schedule:
Be realistic about the amount of time you have each day or each week to write. Don’t schedule an hour a day to write if you can, realistically, only spare twenty minutes. Even a small amount of writing time is better than not writing at all.
