One of the main questions we receive here at the Muse is how to deal with writer’s block and lack of inspiration when it comes to writing poetry. You need to listen to your own creative spirit when you begin feeling “blocked”—perhaps you just need a break from writing or thinking about writing. Allow yourself some time off from your poetry pursuits and if the feeling of creative dryness continues, we have found a few whimsical and fun ideas for rekindling your relationship with your muse:
1. Play with different scents. Before you begin writing, burn some incense, put on a diffuser with your favorite essential oil, burn a scented candle, open a new bag of aromatic potpourri, light some sage, or put a bowl of crushed dried herbs next to you—rosemary, mint, thyme, basil, etc. Deeply breathe in the aroma of your choice and relax.
