Hello Writers, Poets, and Artists!
We love to come across uplifting stories involving poetry and art, especially when the narrative includes community and public service. An article was published recently on the Philadelphia PBS website about local poet Lindo Jones (aka LindoYes), who describes himself as an artist-activist using poetry as a means to further his social justice concerns.
LindoYes states, “What I’m striving to do is make sure that ideas of social change… become so irresistible that they become as immediate as everything else that we need.” And LindoYes has decided that the best vehicle for his brand of helping others is the gumball machine.
LindoYes has installed three standard, mechanical gumball machines in locations around Philadelphia. Each one is stocked with plastic pods, which usually hold small toys, but he has placed within each capsule one of his poems and information on the city of Philadelphia’s mental health hotline.
