Welcome to April and to National Poetry Month!
First launched by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month celebrates the importance of poetry in our society and the integral role that poets have played in the development of culture. The largest literary celebration in the world, National Poetry Month invites all poetry lovers to participate—teachers, students, booksellers, publishers, librarians, literary event coordinators, readers, and, of course—poets.
Since most of us who read and follow the Weekly Muse are poets and lovers of poetry, here are a few suggestions for ways to actively participate in this month-long celebration:
Take part in NaPoWriMo / GloPoWriMo, which stands for “National Poetry Writing Month” and “Global Poetry Writing Month.” How do you participate? It’s simple—write a poem each day in April. Not only will you give yourself a challenge, but you will hone your writing skills, AND you will end up with enough poems …
