In a recent article for The Atlantic writer and podcaster Arthur Brooks penned an interesting article on Søren Kierkegaard’s three phases of life and how those phases can be used to address boredom as well as many other areas/activities in our lives. Upon reading Brooks’ article, we, of course, needed a quick refresher on that character Kierkegaard—we may have been asking ourselves: Wasn’t he Scandinavian? Maybe into existentialism and religion?
We remembered a few things correctly about this Danish philosopher who wrote in the early to mid 19th century. Kierkegaard was also a theologian and a poet, and he is considered the first existentialist. His work primarily focuses on issues of individual existence, freedom, and authenticity.
